“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is

breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks,

and starting on the first one.”

  • Mark Twain

As we approach this season with its busyness and hectic pace, sometimes the task list seems daunting and overwhelming for us all. But we take a deep breath, make a list, prioritize, and take the first step. But did you know that this a learned skill?

Students are also bombarded with tasks that need to be tackled one by one but they can be overwhelmed to say the least as they haven’t had as much practice in the skills many of us do without much thought. As we approach the New Year, why not consider helping your kiddos make a resolution this year pertaining to their study habits? Work with your child to attack one aspect at time, whether it’s time management, organization, or academic skills like note taking and test taking. Anyone at any age can benefit from a little self-evaluation and goal setting.

Study skills may seem like a vague topic – if you feel this way or your kids feel this way, they’re not alone. If you would like an interactive, fun way for your child to strengthen his or her study skills, give us a call. At Fick Education, we desire to give students the tools they need to be successful. One way we do this is by offering a ten-week study skills course a few times a year. We will discuss topics including but not limited to learning styles, time management, organization, note taking, test taking skills, and mnemonics.

The course starts with a personal inventory to determine each student’s individual learning styles. Our learning styles directly affect the way we approach our education so understanding this is critical to success. Once a student knows his or her learning style, he or she can tackle the rest of the coursework in a way that best suits his or her learning needs.

Let us help you achieve one of your New Years’ Resolutions! Our next course starts January 16, 6:30 pm.
